Who's behind it
I'm Allison. I've been an accountant for 30 years. About 15 of those years were as a controller for hotels, restaurants and lounges, and I've also done bookkeeping for oilfield service companies. I live and work in Alberta.
That's the lens for this site. I've seen what happens at month-end when a POS report doesn't match the bank, when field tickets come in three weeks late, or when payroll for a seasonal crew is done in a spreadsheet. Most software reviews are written for US tech companies. This one is for Canadian businesses that pay in CAD, charge GST, remit to the CRA and run on thin margins.
How the site is made
- Research is done with AI assistance, from vendors' own pricing pages and public sources, which are linked on every page with the date they were checked.
- "Reviewer-tested" appears only on tools I've used in my own work: right now that's FreshBooks and QuickBooks Online. Everything else is labelled "Researched, not hands-on tested."
- Pages show "review pending" until I've read and signed off on them.
- We don't publish star ratings, invented test scores or testimonials.

How it's funded
Run by the same person behind Trim & Tally, a bookkeeping service; we may earn commissions from some links. Full details are on the disclosure page. Commissions never decide a recommendation, and we'll say when the best answer is a free tool or no tool at all.
