Sources first
Every tool profile and guide lists its sources: usually the vendor's own pricing and feature pages, plus government pages (CRA, Service Canada, privacy commissioners) for tax and compliance points. When we rely on a third party (for example a reseller's price for a month-to-month plan), we say so.
Prices
- Shown in CAD where the vendor publishes CAD. When a page shows USD or doesn't state a currency, we say that.
- We show the regular price, and list intro discounts separately. Budget for the regular price.
- Every price has a "checked" date. Vendor prices change often; the vendor's page is the final word.
Labels
- Reviewer-tested: Allison has used the product in her own work. Today that's FreshBooks and QuickBooks Online.
- Researched, not hands-on tested: everything else. Based on vendor pages and public sources only. We never describe a researched tool as if we'd used it.
AI assistance and human review
Research and first drafts are done with AI assistance. Each page shows "review pending" until Allison has read and approved it; after that it shows the review date. AI is good at gathering and organising public information. It isn't a substitute for experience, which is why the tested/researched labels exist.
What we don't do
- No star ratings or scores we can't back up.
- No fake testimonials or invented "we tested it for 30 days" claims.
- No paid placements.
- No personal tax advice. Guides on GST, payroll and records are general information with links to the CRA.
